Chatterbox Challenge Week is here: Guest Blog from Tots on Tour

Chatterbox Challenge week is here! We wish all our Chatterboxes the best of luck this week and would love to see what you are getting up to, do share with us any images from your Challenge on Facebook, Twitter or email. Throughout the week our wonderful partner groups will be sharing their blogs and activities with us. Our first blog is from Tots on Tour.

Tots on Tour have been supporters of  I CAN and Chatterbox Challenge since 2004. Fiona Cann (Speech and Language Therapist) and Sara Sprague (Teacher and mother of a child with severe, complex speech and language difficulties) are passionate about enhancing children’s communication skills.

Sara Sprague, Director at Tots on Tour, Having supported many families and children with speech and language difficulties over the last 13 years and having a daughter with complex speech and language difficulties, who benefited greatly from her placement at an I CAN school, we are always keen to support the work of I CAN and Chatterbox Challenge and this year is no different! Mikey, our “Talking and Listening” partner has teamed up with Ben and Holly and is planning lots of fun outdoor activities for our Chatterbox Challenge 2015!”

“Mikey”, Tots on Tour’s “Talking and Listening” partner, and all his friends at Tots on Tour are very excited about their plans for supporting this years I CAN’s Chatterbox Challenge: Garden Adventures with Ben and Holly. This year, Mikey (along with Ben and Holly) has helped us to plan engaging , magical activities for our Chatterbox Challenge Activities that we will be sharing with families, Early Years practitioners and professionals at our “Growing Talk Together”familygroups and training  events. The Chatterbox Challenge provides us with an  opportunity for more fun outdoors, in the garden, the yard, the park, the farm on the way to school or even at the Allotment.

For our Chatterbox Challenge Event “Mikey” and all the children will be dressing up warmly in their hats and scarves ready to explore outdoors. “Mikey” will be sharing his favourite ‘fairy flowers’ (snowdrops and daffodils)  found from his garden which will be hidden in his Talking Tin! We will be going on a listening walk to Ben and Holly’s Magical Kingdom and we will be sharing lots of “chilly chatter”, songs and rhymes that will support the use of our new Chatterbox Challenge words; “frosty, ice, cold, freezing, snow, snowdrops, daffodils, fairies and much more…”

Families have been practicing the new songs we have shared along with some traditional favourites such as “Here we go round the Mulberry Bush on a cold and Frosty Morning”

We are all looking forward to flying on our Magic carpets to Ben and Holly’s Magical kingdom where we will share songs, rhymes and activities together. We recognise that it is not just the songs and rhymes that help language learning but it is how we use and share songs that makes the difference. Take a look at our Top tips for Singing Together  and our Additional Songs & Activities for Chatterbox Challenge 2015 for ideas, to ensure your song sharing really does enhance children’s language learning.
