Marshmallow Sky: A Play by Alan Dawson, Dawn House School
‘Marshmallow Sky’ is the second play about autism written by Alan Dawson. Alan works in the FE department at I CAN’s Dawn House School. The first play, ‘The Red Wot Was Fez’ was performed in a short tour of Mansfield, Worksop and Sheffield last year. The final performance was at The Blue Shed Theatre, Sheffield in November and all proceeds went to Dawn House School.
‘Marshmallow Sky’ is focused on the main character Graham – exploring the difficulties he faces on his journey through life. Graham is on the autistic spectrum and his life is impacted upon by his difficulties with speech, language and communication. Graham also struggles with aspects of his social and emotional skills, such as making friends and ‘fitting in’. The play is uplifting and eventually sees Graham achieve a positive outcome in his life.
‘Marshmallow Sky’ is a modern production and it will be played out on the stage in the traverse, so the audience will also be on stage surrounding the actors on three sides. The fourth side will be screened to show animation which has been specifically written for the play.
The play is being performed at the Mansfield Palace Theatre on 11th & 12th March (times to be confirmed). The tickets are £6.
