Meath School pupil in Just So Singers presented to members of the Royal Family at Royal Albert Hall Concert
Michael, Meath School pupil (left), who is part of the Surrey Special Educational Needs Choir Just So Singers was presented to TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex, Prince Edward and Sophie this week (Tuesday 29th May) at the Go Surrey concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Michael was one of three students chosen from the Just So Singers to meet members of the Royal Family during the concert interval.
The concert, organised by Surrey Arts, was an opportunity to showcase Surrey’s musical talent and to celebrate both Summer 2012 and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The Just So Singers appeared with professional vocal group Apollo 5, and other performers included talented youngsters from the Surrey County Youth Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, Percussion & Brass Ensembles and Youth Choir plus a massed choir of junior school children drawn from over 40 Surrey schools.
Michael age 10, said, “I was very happy to see Sophie and Edward in person. They said they really enjoyed our singing.”
Janet Dunn OBE, Meath School Headteacher, said, “It was such an honour for Michael to be chosen to meet the Earl and Countess of Wessex. He was so excited when we told him before the concert and I know that he couldn’t wait to tell his friends all about what it was like. For Michael, and our other pupils who have severe and complex speech, language and communication needs, inclusive activities like the Just So Singers is a fantastic way to develop their confidence and social skills, alongside their communication skills. A big thank you from all at Meath School and I CAN to everyone involved in organising the concert and for involving our young people.”
